Synopsis
An affectionate portrait of ninety-year-old Indian photographer G. M. Ahuja, who still lives in the once popular photographic studio in downtown Yangon that his father opened almost a century ago.
Director's Biography
Business management graduate Thet Oo Maung (born 1978) is of Karen-Armenian descent. A dedicated humanitarian, self-taught painter, photographer and videographer, he has often used his skills to record the activities of development organisations for whom he has worked or volunteered. He joined Yangon Film School in 2012 and has worked on a number of films in various roles, providing for instance some of the camerawork on Cries and Whispers which explores the border between documentary and fiction, and directing his first documentary, The Old Photographer, which tenderly portrays Indian photographer DA Ahuja. This film went on to screen at festivals in Indonesia and Nepal and featured in Burmese Photographers, an exhibition held at the iconic Secretariat building in Yangon in 2018. Thet Oo Maung has also worked on a number of music video projects in collaboration with musician and sound designer I Two.
