SYNOPSIS
A short but telling portrait of a physics professor and his doting wife in Taunggyi in Shan State who have been married for forty years. While the professor teaches the next generation of physicists, his wife focuses on the smooth running of their home and a tragedy in their marriage is gradually revealed.
BIOGRAPHY
Nang Mhwe Ngin Seng was born in Taunggyi, Shan State in 1997 and raised in the small town of Mong Nai in southern Shan State. Having studied civil engineering and English, she took up various jobs ranging from site engineer, to sales assistant and youth volunteer before deciding to fulfil her dream to learn filmmaking by joining YFS in 2018. She has since completed a number of YFS courses including Docu-Animation where she helped create a short black-and-white animated film, More Than Skin Deep, based on an oral history published in the book ‘Of Peaceful Days’. Currently in her second year at YFS, she is also developing a feature film about a neighbourhood friend struggling with drug addiction. Made during the School’s Art of Documentary Filmmaking course for beginners, Husband & Wife marks her debut as a director.
